Dorothy Eady/Om Seti
Dorothy Eady/Om Seti is a fascinating woman and I only learnt of her in the past few years and I truly wished I had known about her before she passed.
Born in January 1904 and passed in April 1981, Dorothy was of this lifetime but also of at least one other lifetime.
Dorothy believed she was the reincarnation of an Egyptian ancient priestess called Bentreshyt. So connected did she feel to this prior life that she spent most of her adult life in Egypt and passed from this life as a well-respected Egyptologist and Egyptian Folklorist. Primarily she considered herself and was considered by others as the Caretaker of the Temple of Seti I at Abydos. Dorothy worked alongside respected Egyptian archaeologists and she has a well-deserved place in history that helped the interpretation of ancient Egypt both through the knowledge she had from her previous life as a priestess and working in archaeology.
The story of her reincarnation is fascinating but so is the fact that a British woman in the early 20th century permeated a male dominated field and carved out a career for herself.
Dorothy’s story of her reincarnation starts at an early age when aged about three she had an accident and fell down some stairs. After this accident she asked to be ‘taken home’ and started to show unusual behaviours. Things escalated when her parents took her on a trip to the British Museum and she saw her photos of her ‘home’ whilst wandering the Egyptian Halls. Dorothy recognised the places in the photos and felt she knew the people represented by the statues.
As with any child who is different, Dorothy’s behaviour caused consternation during her religious schooling and she also experienced what today we know as being sectioned. Dorothy told of visions and visits from ancient Egyptian figures and often sleep-walked and frightened her parents with her nightmares. This cannot have been an easy time for Dorothy or her parents and I certainly admire Dorothy’s resilience and also her steadfastness in what she believed, when many others I am sure did not believe her.
It was of course a natural progression for Dorothy to work in the field of Egyptology – even though Dorothy was in this lifetime, she felt there was a purpose for her knowing her previous life and a reason why she had been given the visions and story of who she once was.
I feel and believe that Dorothy lived her life with a conviction that she knew she had a purpose, that she had a deeply held connection to ancient Egypt and it seems to me that she was not moved or concerned by what others may have thought.
